Biography
Stanislaw Wyspianski was born in 1869 in Krakow. He studied at the Jagiellonian University and Jan Matejko Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow. He was a member of the Young Poland movement, and art editor of the weekly Życie (Life). Stanislaw Wyspianski is known as a playwright and poet, modernist painter, and designer. The artist died in November 1907. He was buried in Krakow.
Object description
This is a study of the man’s head with a thick dark sharp beard and short hair. His gaze is directed downwards. The defining facial feature is a wide nose and a focused gaze that is directed downwards. The facial expression emphasizes the strong-willed nature of the portrayed man.
Inscriptions
On the lower right side of the work there is the author monogram. At the bottom there is a date.
