Object description
Even if the rest of the Holy Family on the flight to Egypt was nowhere described in detail, it was represented in Western European art for centuries. In the presented work, the artist interprets the biblical story uniquely. The Holy Family is depicted near the building, from which only a column is visible. The Virgin Mary is sitting with the Child in her arms. On the left, Joseph is reading the Holy Scriptures, and cherubs are worshipping them among the clouds. A pastoral landscape with wooded hills stretches behind.
