Biography
Tadeusz Styka (April 12, 1889, Kielce, Poland – September 11, 1954, New York) was a portrait painter, and the eldest son of painter Jan Styka (1858–1925). In 1900, he moved to Paris, where he entered the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts. In 1929, Tadeusz Styka emigrated with his family to the United States of America. The artist's works have been exhibited in galleries in France, Poland, and the United States of America. He painted genre scenes, nudes, and animals (especially he loved depicting lions).
Object description
The singer Orpheus, a character of ancient mythology, is depicted with a harp in his hands. He is a young man with golden hair and a naked torso; there is a flying pink veil on one of his shoulders. Birds fly over his head. At the bottom of his feet there are animals, including lions, roe deer, and a panther leaning against the feet of a young man.
