Biography
Tadeusz Styka (April 12, 1889, Kielce, Poland – September 11, 1954, New York) was a portrait painter, and the eldest son of painter Jan Styka (1858–1925). In 1900, he moved to Paris, where he entered the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts. In 1929, Tadeusz Styka emigrated with his family to the United States of America. The artist's works have been exhibited in galleries in France, Poland, and the United States of America. He painted genre scenes, nudes, and animals (especially he loved depicting lions).
Object description
A young man holding a canvas on a stretcher is depicted on a dark background. His face is young and concentrated, and his fair hair is parted. The man is dressed in an unbuttoned black coat, from under which a light vest and a high collar of the shirt are visible.
Inscriptions
At the bottom right there is an author's inscription "Tade. Styka, Paris, 1907".
