Karol Szaszkiewicz was the husband of Justyna Zuzanna from the Dulski family. The portrait is paired with the picture of his wife, Justyna – the size and composition are identical. It is painted similarly on a dark background with an illuminated spot behind the figure. The work follows the traditions of ceremonial portraits. The figure of Karol is depicted in a formal pose, ¾ turned to the right, he is wearing a "Queue" ("tail") – fashionable in the eighteenth century male wig (with the hair combed to the back and tied in a tail with a black ribbon). The provincial artist executed the portrait in a restrained colour scheme, the accent of which is the blue of the man's overcoat, accentuated by a white shirt with a jabot. In his work, the author tried to follow European examples. In the portrait, the man is solemn and respectful rather than majestic and powerful, which is characteristic of earlier portraits.
