Object description
Sculptural images of angels' heads are often found in the decoration of churches, in the interiors of churches, where they filled the empty spaces of iconostases and altars. Such sculptures became most common in the Baroque period. Artists gave their works individual features, creating a unique range of exciting types. The two paired heads from the village of Navariia are similar to each other, but each of them has individual features. Wavy hair, with characteristic playful bangs, encircles the cherubs' heads, and polychromy enhances the emotionality of the images.
