The sculptural composition of the Sorrowful Christ, from the village of Zadnistriany, Sambir district, was carved by a folk master. It imitates the iconographic type called "Thinker". The sculpture depicts the thin and exhausted body of Jesus the Savior; his spine is clearly defined, the ribs are protruding, and his belly is sunken. An expression of deep thoughtfulness, sadness and compassion for all those who suffer is depicted on his face. The static figure of Christ is the image of the "Suffering Person", characterized by a facial expression full of horror and suffering. Christ's eyes are wide open; his gaze is directed at the viewer. The author used a rich colour scheme of bright red and green shades, successfully combined with the light colour of Jesus' body. The work was brought to a certain perfection by polychrome.
