Object description
Mikolaj Dembowski (1680–1757) was a Polish nobleman, courtier, Roman Catholic religious figure, and Latin bishop of Kamyanets. He was a son of Florian Dembowski, a ziemski (land) judge of Polotsk, and Ewa Szwiejko-Ciechanowiecka. In 1753, he received the Order of the White Eagle. The image of Mikolaj Dembowski, bishop of Kamyanets, a candidate for the archbishopric in Lviv, is considered one of the portraits of the clergy. The work is mentioned in the inventory of Pidhirtsi Castle in 1768, where it remained until 1939. The portrait of M. Dembowski is painted in a manner traditional for Adam Manyoki, where the primary attention is concentrated on the face. The painting is executed in an ashy-silver colour scheme with a slight accent of red.
