Object description
The full-length contrapposto sculpture of the saint is shown in an expressive pose with his arms outstretched to the right. A wave of tension pierces the saint's dynamic figure. The man's elongated ascetic face with expressive features, eyes rolled upwards, eyelids barely closed, cheekbones protruding and hollowed, and mouth wide open, is full of expression and inner turmoil. Unruly waves of loose hair frame the man's head. Long strands of a split beard fall on his chest. The saint's dynamic pose and theatrical movements add emotional expressiveness to the image. A long tunic envelops the saint's body, exposing his shod feet. The monumental, somewhat restrained folds of the garment, formed by geometric planes, create light and shadow effects that enhance the emotionality of the image.
