Object description
The full-length figure of the king is depicted in a restrained, slightly curved pose. His head is turned to the left shoulder, and his arms are outstretched. The man is dressed in knightly armour, and a drapery is thrown over his left shoulder, covering his right thigh. The composition of the sculpture, using classical contrapposto, shows a hieratic pose and restrained movement. Still, the static image is somewhat disrupted by the expressive intensity of the facial expression: the man is depicted with a wrinkled forehead, protruding brow arches, slightly open small eyes, and an open mouth. The figure is sculpted statically, with a slow vertical rhythm of sharp carved folds in the clothing with thickened creases. The work is characterised by transmitting emotions without exaggerated gestures and emotional tension.
