Object description
The full-length figure of the bishop is depicted in a restrained curved pose. His head is turned to the right shoulder, and his arms are outstretched. The bishop is wearing a mitre, an ecclesiastical attire reminiscent of Christ's crown of thorns. Over the long tunic is a rochet with a delicately carved lace pattern at the bottom. The clothing features predominantly straight, long folds, meticulously detailed with parallel lines. Stillness and slow-paced movements characterise the sculpture, yet it retains the Baroque emotional intensity of the image. The overall tranquillity of the sculptural composition is disrupted by the emotional expression on the face: drawn, distinctly defined eyebrows that transition into a broad, straight nose, narrowed almond-shaped eyes, and a slightly parted mouth with the lower lip protruding. Strands of the beard, appearing swept by the wind, add dynamism to the work.
