Object description
The full-length kneeling figure depicts an angel as a young man. The squat, anatomically disproportionate image indicates the authorship of a folk master. The author's primary focus is on the angel's concentrated face, where polychromy plays a significant role. One can discern realistic features on the angel's face: a high, exposed forehead, straight and distinct eyebrow arches, a wedge-shaped nose, a mouth closed in a smile, and a small double chin. The hair, closely surrounding the head, is modelled by steady, shallow lines. The angel is dressed in a long, girded tunic that covers only the right shoulder. The plastic line of the figure's contour and the soft outlines of the garment's folds are harmoniously balanced. In the frontal, static sculpture of the angel, there is a palpable lively immediacy.
