Object description
The full-length contrapposto sculpture depicts an angel in the image of a young man. The squat, disproportionate figure indicates the authorship of a folk artist who attempts to depict the human body anatomically accurately. The author's primary focus is on the angel's concentrated face. In his visage, one can discern realistic human features: a large open forehead, deep small eyes, a long, broad nose, and full pursed lips. The elongated oval face bears a focused gaze. The angel's short black hair tightly frames the head. His body is covered by a long blue belted tunic, modelled with straight parallel vertical creases with rounded ribbed protrusions. The plastic line of the sculpture's contour and the soft outlines of the garment folds are consistent with the restrained and balanced image of the angel, carved in the characteristic naive and amiable manner of folk masters.
