Object description
The work is a full-length figure of an angel sitting in a dynamic pose with his head tilted to the left shoulder and his arms held out in the opposite direction. The sculpture was created following the traditions of Baroque plastics. The author carved the figure of a child angel with anatomical accuracy, using polychrome to emphasise its realism. The child's naked body is covered only by a drapery that envelops the hips in a dynamic wave. It is modelled by deeply cut lines that intersect and form geometric planes. A soft contour line outlines the rounded face of the angel. Full of childish naivety, the dreamy and lyrical image is completed by a high forehead with clear arcs of slightly raised eyebrows, wide open large eyes with an upward gaze, a snub nose, plump pink cheeks, and expressive red lips. Wavy strands of unruly hair and open golden wings with carved feathers add emotional expressiveness to the sculpture.
