Object description
The sculpture of the Virgin Mary is carved in an expressive pose – a curved S-shaped silhouette, typical in Baroque art. The author has depicted Mary in a natural and graceful pose. The saint is presented in a long red tunic decorated with clear shallow vertical and diagonal lines without excessive creases. Mary's head is covered by a maphorion draping down and enveloping her hips. The drapery is covered with dynamic folds that follow the figure's outline. The facial features are proportionally rendered. Her eyes are cast downward, conveying an image of humbleness. The confident modelling of plastic volumes and the soft fluidity of the silhouette reveal the skill of an experienced master.
