Object description
The handmade cross is seven-pointed in design, with a short handle and an elongated middle handle, made using the flat carving technique. The compositional solution is simple and does not contain multi-figure scenes. The craftsman placed the crucifix on the front side in the central core. The figure is modelled flat. The background around Christ is shallow, with vertical lines. Two waist-length figures, possibly standing, can be seen at the ends of the middle frame. The author used only shallow incisions. The schematised figure of Jesus on the crucifixion follows the Western European tradition. Above the Saviour's head is the title with an inscription. The upper and lower frames are separated from the main composition, creating separate planes framed by lines. An illegible inscription is placed on the base of the upper and lower crossbars. On the back of the cross is a full-figure figure of the Virgin Mary and the Child, depicted in a crown. On both sides of the Virgin Mary, at the ends of the middle frame, are reliefs of figures made using the flat carving technique with minor reproductions of details. The framing of the outline of the handmade cross around the perimeter is smooth, repeating the shape of the shoulders.
