Object description
The seven-pointed cross with an elongated central crosspiece is made using profiling and flat carving techniques. The crucifixion is depicted on the front in a manner typical of primitive folk art, occupying the central cross and part of the central stem. The figure of Christ is crouched, with a disproportionately large head, and a schematisation of forms with rough outlines and little detail characterises the representation of the body. The surface of the back of the cross is divided by clear lines: a cross is inscribed in the centre of the circle, and the outline of an elongated cross is visible on the central part of the stem. The upper and lower crosses' horizontal frames are separated from the front and back central composition. Their surfaces are framed along the contour by a band decorated with a "kryvulka" (curved) pattern. The central part of the frame is filled with inscriptions. A strip decorated with a "kryvulka" (curved) motif runs along the outline of the handmade cross on the front and back, repeating the frame's shape.
