Object description
The painting depicts God the Father holding His Son Jesus, with the Holy Spirit above them in the form of a dove. Thus, the image portrays the entire Holy Trinity. On the left, above the dead body of Jesus, two angels hold the cross on which His body had hung until just moments ago. Only a crown of thorns and the inscription "INRI" ("Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews") hang from the cross. On the right, an angel kneels in adoration of the dead body, paying homage. The depiction of God the Father supporting his crucified Son in the composition "Lamentation" dates back to the fifteenth century, although it is quite rare. The painting represents the mysteries of Redemption and the sacrificial, great love of God for Humanity. "I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die. And whoever lives by believing in me will never die" (John 11:25-26).
