Object description
The crucifixion was part of a wooden cross. The figure is carved in a pose characteristic of Western iconography, following the traditional pattern with the head tilted to the right and specific body proportions. The master paid particular attention to the anatomical structure of the human figure. Attempts to emphasise the musculature and thinness of Christ's physique are evident. His hands, with closed palms, are raised and spread apart, his legs are crossed and nailed together with a single nail. Christ is depicted as dead, his head tilted towards his chest, his eyes closed. His hair falls in wavy, carved lines onto his shoulders. His head is adorned with a crown of thorns. Jesus' naked body is covered by a loincloth, rendered schematically with harsh lines that give the image a more decorative quality. Traces of polychromy can be seen on the body and the bandage on the hips. Through physicality, the author attempts to express the drama of the moment of execution. In the image of the Crucifixion, sacred symbolism is combined with the author's individual style, giving the work a special character, where the main goal is to convey the suffering and sacrifice of Christ through physicality and emotional expression.
