Object description
The sculptural Crucifixion is made in accordance with traditional Western iconography. The figure is depicted at the moment of suffering on the cross. Christ is depicted with his head bowed, topped with a crown of thorns. His face is refined, with soft features, giving the image a sad and mournful expression at the same time. The elongated figure is naturally modelled, reflecting the artist's desire to convey the anatomical features of the human body. The muscles, the relief of the chest and abdomen, and the knee caps are clearly defined. The arms are spread apart, the legs are stretched out and crossed, and the opening from the nail is visible on them. The loincloth on the hips is carved with particular care: the folds of the fabric resemble dynamic movements, creating an effect of lightness and lively texture. The deeply emotional image of Christ in the work is distinguished by a combination of tragedy and spiritual peace.
