Two figures are depicted: a man stands with his back to the viewer, kneeling with a halo above his head. He leans back slightly, covering his face with his left hand, as if frightened by something. Diagonally in front of him is the figure of an angel with large wings, holding a bowl of fire in his hands. Osyp Sorokhtei returns to the scene of "Agony in the Garden", focusing on the appearance of the angel with the cup–so dramatic that Jesus seems to step out of the painting itself, as the artist dares to partially crop his figure. Instead, the angel becomes the main character of the work.
