Object description
The sculptural image of the angel's head has significant losses of polychromy and carved elements. The work is distinguished by a combination of realistic features with conventional stylisation. The oval face has soft, somewhat naive features. The large, clearly outlined eyes express lightness and friendliness. The angel's expression is focused, with a palpable sense of spiritual elevation. The polychromy gives the image greater expressiveness and lifelike quality – soft pink shades on the lips, grey-blue tones in the eyes. The image is made in the traditions of Baroque sacred sculpture, which aims to bring the image to life by giving it human, often childlike features, creating an atmosphere of joy. In his work, the sculptor sought to convey not severity, but lightness and tenderness – through rounded shapes, warm colours, a smile and a gentle look.
