Biography
Konrad Kogen (1821–?) studied in Krakow at the School of Fine Arts under W. K. Stattler in 1839–1840 and 1843–1844. He later studied painting at the Antwerp Academy and in Paris, probably in 1847–1848. In 1854–1858, he participated in exhibitions of the Society of Fine Arts in Krakow. In 1855, the directors of the Society of Fine Arts purchased the artist's most popular painting, "Lirnyk". In 1881, the artist stayed in Busko. The artist's works include the compositions "Jewish Merchants in Winter", "Krakow Townswoman", "Ascent to Calvary", "Woman with a Child's Body in Her Arms", "Service at Florian's Gate", and a portrait of cellist S. Kossowski. A letter to F. Tepa (1829–1889) mentions the artist's works "The Suffering Christ" and "A Ruthenian Wedding near Busk". The National Museum in Krakow has a watercolour "Portrait of Teresa Sapieha", the Lancut Museum has "Portrait of Juliusz Tarnowski", and the Silesian Museum in Wroclaw has a copy of a portrait by J. Dlugosz.
