Object description
Józef Kalasanty Dzieduszycki (03.07.1776–19.06.1847) was a Polish bibliophile, collector and statesman. He was a member of the Polish noble family of Dzieduszycki of the Sas coat of arms. He was the fourth son of Tadeusz Gervasius Dzieduszycki (1724–1777), Grand Cupbearer of the Crown, and Salomea Józefa Biberstein-Trembińska. He was a captain in the Polish army. He owned estates in Potorytsia, Tarnavka, Yaryshiv, and others. In 1815, he founded the Potorytsia Library, which was later merged with the Dzieduszycki Museum in Lviv. On 25 March 1821, he and his brothers were granted the title of count in the Kingdom of Poland. On 3 November 1818, he married Countess Anna Paulina Działyńska (1795–1856), daughter of Senator-Voivode of the Duchy of Warsaw, Count Ksawery Działyński (1756–1819). He was the father of the outstanding naturalist, collector, patron, ethnographer, and archaeologist Włodzimierz Dzieduszycki (1825–1899).
