Biography: Stanislaw Wyspianski was born in 1869 in Krakow. He studied at the Jagiellonian University and Jan Matejko Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow. He was a member of the Young Poland movement, and art editor of the weekly Życie (Life). Stanislaw Wyspianski is known as a playwright and poet, modernist painter, and designer. The artist died in November 1907. He was buried in Krakow.

Object description

This is a cityscape of Chartres town. On the right side of the work in the foreground, one can see the river and its embankment. In the background there is a stone bridge with five human figures that are depicted vaguely.

Inscriptions

In the upper part of the work there is a creation date 1890 written illegibly in Polish.
