Object description
The work depicts the image of a satyr, which was common in Baroque art. The popularity of satyrs in 17th- and 18th-century painting is connected with the fact that those mythological creatures were an allegorical representation of the melancholic side of the human character. An almost life-size satyr sits in the foreground, resting his hand on the ground. In the background is a poorly detailed landscape, with the elements almost impossible to detect.
