Biography
Solomon Schapira (1909–1942) was a member of the Ster art group founded under the leadership of E. Kunks in Lviv in 1934. He participated in the society's first exhibition, where he presented plaster compositions on social themes. His style was characterised by the compactness of form, modelled by broad planes, which gave his compositions monumentality. He uses expressive means of art in his works, mainly on social themes.
Object description
A figurative depiction of two men, leaning heavily forward, with arms laid back. The first man on the right, strongly leaning forward, with his body turned three-quarters to the left, his head tilted downwards, his legs bent. The second is leaning to him, his body turned three-quarters to the left, with his right leg extended forward, strongly bent at the knee, his chest protruding forward, his head raised up. The sculptor masterfully conveys the superhuman physical effort of the men. The composition is executed in a cubist manner.
