Object description
The figure of a monk is represented in the S-shaped silhouette typical of the Baroque period, with outstretched arms and a bent right leg. The head is turned to the left and slightly tilted back. The figure is made in the Baroque and Rococo style. The sculptor's aim was not to reproduce the anatomical similarity of the person depicted but rather to convey his shape, mood, and emotions. The monk seems to be frozen in a theatrical pose. The sculptor mainly focused on the face, particularly a tiny sharp chin, noticeable cheekbones, straight nose, and eyes with an upward gaze. The master skilfully reproduced the monk's facial expression. The folds of clothing formed by horizontal lines flow down. Draperies form a kind of abstract planes curved at different angles.
