Object description
The full-length contrapposto sculpture of the bishop is presented in a dynamic pose with outstretched arms and the right foot extended forward. The man's elongated ascetic face with distinct features, deep-set small eyes, barely closed eyelids, protruding cheekbones, and hollow cheeks is full of expressiveness. His short, engraved hair is visible beneath the tiara, and the wavy strands of his split long beard, cascading onto the chest, enhance the motion. The lowered shoulders are gently enveloped by a cape fastened at the chest. The sculptor has worked out a detailed pattern on the tiara and the long garment that covers the whole body and exposes only the hands and feet. The bishop's attire is sculpted with deep, vertical folds that seem to break into lines on separate planes. The depiction of emotions in the sculpture is characterised by subtlety, avoiding exaggerated gestures and emotional tension.
