Biography: Volodymyr Budnikov was born in 1947. In 1965 graduated from Kyiv Art School. 1965–1971 – graduated from Kyiv Art Institute (studio of the academician T. Yablonska). Member of the National Artists Union of Ukraine (since 1975). Honored Art Worker of Ukraine. Professor Budnikov is teaching painting at the Ukrainian Academy of Arts. Artistic practices include painting, works on paper, and spatial objects. Lives and works in Kyiv. Currently lives and works in Berlin.

Object description

These works are part of the extensive "Time of War" series, which I began during russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine and continue to work on to this day. russian aggression has brought destruction and death and, at the same time, raised a pressing question for the entire world: how do we define the evil that lures a person until all that is human within them perishes? To my mind, the russian state not only brings about physical death but, since the Soviet era, it has strived to eradicate human qualities from the living. I am witnessing an army of the dead, against which the living humanity must unite, or else it will face the triumph of death. (V. Budnikov).
