Object description
The full-length figure conveys the image of a wandering hermit, Saint Roch. He is dressed in a long blue tunic belted with a sash and a cloak with two shells attached to it, symbolizing pilgrimage and reminding us of the mortality of earthly life. The figure is counterpointed by a loose, slightly bent at the knee, right leg. The sculpture is restrained and balanced, the saint's gaze is focused and concentrated, and the whole image is static, which is emphasized by the soft, flowing lines of the folds of the clothes.
