In the inventory records of Pidhirtsi Castle "Still Life with Birds – I" was mentioned in 1768, 1812-13, 1859, 1887, 1939. It has the character of a "deception" and is referred to as "like a painted board". A hanging killed bird is painted in a centre on a background of a freshly planked wooden board. At the bottom are two writing quills, a comb and a sheet of paper with a bust of an unknown nobleman, laced together. The artist perfectly conveys the texture of wood. The main subject, a dead bird, is depicted obscurely. The ruffled goose feathers are depicted more thoroughly. All the images are balanced, with clear composition. The selection of details for the still life gives the impression of artificiality.
