Object description
An oval-shaped iron tsuba (nagamaru gata) with a wedge-shaped hole (nakago-ana) in the center and two holes (hitsu-ana) on either side of it for kozuka and kogai. The tsuba is decorated with a relief, partially cut through, two-sided image of a naval battle scene. In the upper part on tsuba’s front side two boats with samurai are depicted. In the boat on the left, there is a flag with the image of a large leaf of a plant. The bow of another ship has the form of a phoenix; one of the decks is decorated with ornaments in the form of butterflies.
