Sculptural images of angels are the most numerous group of preserved wooden artworks. In the sculptures of heavenly messengers, folk masters embodied observations of the surrounding world, revealing their vision of the image. Angels were carved standing, sitting, kneeling with hands in prayer, and depicted in various hypostases. The sculpture portrays a young man in a long, girded tunic with his hands in prayer. His angelic nature is revealed solely by the large wings on his back, with each feather detailed with shallow carved lines. The peaceful and focused gaze of the angel's small, deeply set eyes is directed upwards. A barely noticeable smile slightly alters his calm and concentrated image.
