Object description
A full-length polychrome sculpture of a saint on a cloud with arms widely spread. The sculpture imitates the Baroque tradition, characterised by a dynamic contrapposto pose. The emotional portrayal is emphasised since the author aimed to achieve anatomical accuracy and convey the emotional tone through movement and posture. The youthful male face is distinctly modelled with clear arches of the eyelids above expressive eyes directed upward in a beseeching gaze, a high open forehead with straight brow lines, prominent cheekbones, slightly sunken cheeks, and an open mouth. The saint's face creates an impression of detachment from the surrounding world. He is dressed in knightly armour. The drapery, modelled in soft lines with deeply carved folds and rounded ribbed edges, flows over the knightly armour.
