Object description
The holy Dominican nun received the name Rosa at her anointing. The woman was distinguished by her deep faith and piety. She lived modestly and helped those in need. One of the saint's attributes is a wreath of roses, with which she is often depicted. This sculptural image shows the full-length figure of the saint in the classical contrapposto pose with her arms spread and her head turned to her left shoulder. The work is distinguished by its static, monumental and accentuated heaviness. The woman is depicted with an expression of light sadness: high outlines of the brow arches, almond-shaped eyes, and a straight, long nose. Saint Rosa is dressed in a long monastic habit modelled with massive folds. They envelop the body in horizontal stripes from above, fall down in vertical lines and break into separate planes.
