Object description
Moses is one of the most famous prophets in the Old Testament. According to legend, he was the author of the first five books of the Bible. It was to him that God handed over the stone tablets with which the saint was often depicted. The full-length figure of Moses, sitting in a dynamic pose with the tablets in his hands, is reproduced in a state of emotional tension. The prophet is depicted with a high, smooth forehead, low arches of the eyebrows slightly inward, deep-set eyes with a gaze directed upwards, expressive cheekbones, and hollow cheeks. His tired face is covered with expressive curls of carved hair and beard. Moses' body is covered by clothes that expose only his hands and feet. The clothes are covered with dynamic folds that intersect and create bizarre patterns. The work is marked by the expressive tension of the Baroque style, which can be traced in the curve of the figure, the dynamic folds of the clothes, and the emotional reproduction of the image.
