Object description
The appeal to antiquity was a feature of the Renaissance, Classicism, Baroque, and the 18th- and 19th-century culture. In addition to architecture, sculpture, and painting, reminiscences of antiquity entered the decorative and applied arts in terms of plasticity, decoration, and form. An example is a bronze vase with a marble base from the Gallery's collection that resembles an antique kylix. The exquisite laconic silhouette, the combination of matt black bronze and gold decoration, and the solemn carmine marble base enhance the object's aesthetic qualities.
