Object description
Mary Magdalene is a follower of Jesus Christ, a Christian saint, one of the Myrrhbearers, who, according to the Gospel, followed Christ after the exorcism of seven demons, was present at his Crucifixion and was the first to receive his appearance after the Resurrection. The name "Magdalene" is considered geographical and traditionally stands for "a native of the city of Migdal-El". The images of the saint from the Gallery's collection are marked by Baroque and Rocaille art stylistics, as evidenced by the expression of a face raised to the sky, draperies and active interaction with the space of sculptural forms.
