Object description
The sculptural image of the angel's head is characterised by delicate detailing and rich polychromy. The work is distinguished by a combination of realistic features and stylisation. The cherub's expression is focused, with a palpable sense of spiritual elevation, while the polychromy gives the image greater expressiveness and lifelike quality. The master paid particular attention to the smoothness of the contours and proportions, which is evident in the image's vivid and expressive appearance. The volume of the cherub's silhouette is conveyed softly, without sharp contrasts, creating a sense of plastic tenderness. The face is full of inner expression – not dramatic, but rather spiritually focused. Small decorative wings add a sense of completeness to the image. The Baroque tradition of sacred sculpture is evident in the smoothness of the lines and the roundness of the forms, where similar images were treated in a light, somewhat playful manner, in contrast to the austere Renaissance.
