Object description

Jerzy Stanisław Dzieduszycki (1670 – 6 September 1730) – statesman of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, starost of Zhydachiv (from 1694), Grand Crown Hunter (1703–1704), Grand Crown Marshal (1704–1730). Polish writer, historian, bibliophile, collector. The only son of Podolian Voivode Franciszek Jan Dzieduszycki (1640–1704) and Zofia Jabłonowska, sister of Grand Crown Hetman Stanisław Jan Jabłonowski. Educated at a Jesuit college. In 1691, after participating in the Moldavian campaign, he travelled around Europe, visiting France, Belgium, and Holland. In 1695, he received ownership of the Zhydachiv starosty from his father. In 1696, he was elected ambassador from the Lviv region to the convocation Sejm, where he supported the candidacy of the Saxon Elector Augustus the Strong. In 1697, the new Polish king, Augustus the Strong, sent Jerzy Stanisław Diduszycki to Vienna, Venice, and Rome with the news of his election to the throne. In 1704, he married Marianna Teresa Zamoyska (1686–1751), daughter of the Grand Treasurer of the Crown and Ordynat of Zamość, Marcin Zamoyski (c. 1637–1689), and Anna Franciszka Gnińska (d. 1704). He settled in the Kukulivtsi estate near Halych, where he devoted himself to writing, building, and decorating his residence. He died on 6 September 1730 in Lviv and was buried in the Jesuit church.
