Biography
Stanislaw Wyspianski was born in 1869 in Krakow. He studied at the Jagiellonian University and Jan Matejko Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow. He was a member of the Young Poland movement, and art editor of the weekly Życie (Life). Stanislaw Wyspianski is known as a playwright and poet, modernist painter, and designer. The artist died in November 1907. He was buried in Krakow.
Object description
a) This is a study of two female heads. In the upper part of the work there is a woman’s head that is depicted with her hair combed back and the gaze directed downwards. In the lower part of the work there is a young girl’s head that is depicted with shoulder-length hair; her head is slightly tilted to the viewer’s right. The gaze of her large wide-open eyes is directed at the viewer; a smile is barely visible on her full lips. b) This is a study of a woman’s head that is turned three quarters to the viewer’s left. She is looking at the viewer. Her hair is gathered on the back of the head. The defining facial features are wide-open eyes, as well as full and smiling lips.
