Biography
Stanislaw Wyspianski was born in 1869 in Krakow. He studied at the Jagiellonian University and Jan Matejko Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow. He was a member of the Young Poland movement, and art editor of the weekly Życie (Life). Stanislaw Wyspianski is known as a playwright and poet, modernist painter, and designer. The artist died in November 1907. He was buried in Krakow.
Object description
This is a study of the heads of two girls. The figure to the viewer’s left is portrayed with short hair that is decorated with a bow. The defining facial features are a wide nose, thick straight eyebrows, and large wide-open eyes. The gaze is directed downwards. The lips are stiff. The face expresses emotions of sadness. The second girl is depicted with flowing shoulders-length hair. The defining facial features are a wide nose and large wide-open eyes. The gaze is directed at the viewer. The lips are stiff.
