Object description
Kaietan Sadowski of Lubicz coat of arms was a colonel of the Lithuanian troops. He was a son of Ignatius Leonard Sadowski, the elder of Slonim, and Princess Teresa Czetwertynska. The half-length image of a man is painted following the canons of the ceremonial portraiture. Kaietan Sadowski is represented in a solemnly static pose. He is dressed in formal clothes with a blue ribbon and an order. Bright colours, excessive detailing of the image and accessories, a planar manner of execution, and solemnity, typical for primitive art paintings, characterise the image. The artist carefully reproduced the portrait features of the person portrayed, particularly bulbous almond-shaped eyes, a straight nose with swollen nostrils, a massive chin, and a small curled moustache. The family coat of arms emphasises the social status of the man. At the bottom of the painting is the inscription "Kaietan Sadowski syn Ignacego starosty Slonimskiego i Maryanny xiezniczki Czetwertynskiey kawaler orderu bawarskiego".
