Lviv. Church of St. Nicholas with the University Building
Information about author
This is one of ten works from the series of lithographs with the views of Lviv during the Russian occupation in the winter of 1915. The artist depicted a view of St. Nicholas Street (now Mykhailo Hrushevskyi Street) from the north of the former Alexander Fredro Square. The dark facades of the church and the former monastery building are depicted on the right. However, one can see the light in the windows of the university, so it is difficult to understand whether it is snow reflecting in the glass, or, actually, some lessons are given indoors. The work is performed in dimmed gray tones. Both the snow and the sky are depicted blackened.
In the lower left corner there is the author's signature and date “ОDobrowolski / 915” written in italics.
