Object description
The small figure of Virgin Mary from the village of Dubravka is placed on a square stand. Almost every folk master began to carve the sculpture from the top without outlining the general shapes. Thus, the figures are often less proportional than the presented work. The sculpture is full-length and frontal. Following the posture of professional sculptural images, the author reproduced Virgin Mary slightly bent to the left; her contrapposto figure paused in a graceful pose, and her leg was put forward. The saintly woman is dressed in a long blue tunic; her head is covered with a red veil. The clothes are modelled with clear drapery lines. Virgin Mary's gentle face is calm – the saintly woman, despite the pain of loss, is in a state of deep faith. Virgin Mary, with folded arms on her chest, represents the image of humility.
