Object description
The sculpture depicts a contrapposto male figure restrained in motion; his right arm is raised, and his palm is directed upwards. An elongated, athletically built, anatomically correct carved figure is conveyed imitating a gait emphasized by a barely put forward right leg. The slender silhouette of the figure is reserved, which is typical of the Renaissance style. A long tunic, wrapped with a waistband, leaves open the right arm with part of the torso and the leg of the man, demonstrating the muscular body skillfully reproduced by the sculptor. Carved folds of clothing, made in low relief with sharp ribbed tops, harmoniously fit the figure without deep hollows. The entire surface of the garments is covered with small parallel planes. Attention is focused on the unique man’s face, framed with waves of dark hair, which forms a characteristic tuft above his high forehead. A peaceful reflection is reproduced on the elongated face oval with arched eyebrows above covered eyes and a barely open mouth. The slowness of movement, soft texture, and balanced facial expression can be seen in the integral form of the sculptural image.
