The composition is based on three colours (black, white, and possibly caput mortuum) and their shades; the palette is cool. Form intensity, dynamics, and the overall spatial solution are an example of avant-garde experiences during the interwar period, including practices of Oleksandr Vesnin, Ivan Kliun, Ivan Kudriashov, Liubov Popova, and Volodymyr Tatlin. The painting alludes to Liubov Popova's works with dynamic construction, particularly her 1919 work of the same name (State Tretyakov Gallery, Moscow). The title also implies the influence of ideas in which, as the practitioners and theorists of the avant-garde claimed, we can more cohesively perceive not only the moment of an era but also engage in forecasting and, if possible, constructing the future.
