Object description
Against a snow-covered meadow, there is a knee-length image of two children in Hutsul costumes. The children are probably a brother and sister. Their clothing reveals their social status – perhaps they have to beg. The older brother leads the younger sister, who is wrapped in several headscarves. The dark brown colours in which the work is executed convey the difficult emotional state of the orphans: the girl looks tired and doomed and unwillingly follows her brother; the boy's face shows sadness and anxiety.
