Object description
The cross is designed seven-pointed, with an elongated middle crosspiece and a short handle. Its compositional solution is simple and laconic. Iconographic scenes occupy the middle part of the central stem of the cross on both sides. The front side features a squat, flat-carved Crucifixion with schematically elaborated details and a graphic contour line. The palms of Jesus are open, his head is tilted to the right shoulder, his body is covered by a loin cloth on his thighs. Above the figure is a traditional plaque with the inscription "INRI". The upper and lower frames are separated from the main composition by a clear, smooth line along the perimeter, surrounded by a "kryvulka" (curved) motif in the middle. In the centre, a pattern of alternating letters and squares is framed by a contour line. On the back of the hand cross in the central part is a textured image of the Virgin Mary in a crown with the Infant Christ in her arms. At the ends of the middle frame, two waist-length figures with graphic details are worked in flat relief. The decorative solution on the back side of the edges is identical to the solution on the front side. There is a clear stripe along the contour of the cross profiling, so the background is recessed, and the images do not protrude beyond the main surface of the cross.
